Everyone has to undergo a hard time and learning curve in maturing the talent of writing. And it also takes time in getting endorsed for the work. When I had started my career in content writing in 2012, the very first lesson I had learnt was: Being creative and grammatically correct are not the only requirements to write fruitful articles. There are certain guidelines which are commonly associated with every type of article, whether it is a blog post or a printable article.
Today, I bring you an ideal set of 8 keys to write effective and quality articles, which are specially scripted for beginners and certainly helpful for those who are planning to start a career in writing.
1. Choose an appropriate subject
Never drink a dozen cups of coffee before deciding an appropriate topic for the article. Stressing your mind without knowing the direction will certainly take an awkward turn. You can produce a topic in context with your recent experience and even a new interest or activity you are indulged in.
2. Collate information from various sources.
You must cruise a little through the web to collect necessary information like opinions and arguments connected with your chosen topic. Remember you won’t be able to complete your article unless you become familiar with the topic yourself.
3. Describe the objective
Your article must be goal oriented. Describe the purpose of the article at first place before start yelling about the key points. A person reading the article for the first time wants to know whether it’s actually worth reading or not. Also mention for which audience you have written the article and signal its benefit.
4. Accentuate over readability
Your article must assure readability throughout. If your article is lengthy then form an apt structure using headings, sub-headings and bullet points. Try to make shorter sentences and limit using complex words. Test the readability score of your article by visiting: Readability-score.com
5. Be practical and not just theoretical
Don’t just emphasize on the possibilities, but demonstrate appropriate methods to accomplish tasks which you are mentioning. Your readers won’t encourage your article unless it teaches them anything practically and answers their doubts immediately.
6. Provide your opinion
Don’t misjudge yourself, I mean your knowledge. Provide your opinion or advice wherever you feel like. This will not only make the article look genuine but also increases your credibility in the eyes of the reader. You can also cite your arguments by linking to the evidence, use hyperlinks in a blog post or quote sources at the bottom of the paragraph if you are writing for printable form.
7. Conclude properly
You may have written the last key point of your article, perhaps you are happy with it. But believe me that your article isn’t finished yet. You are advised to spare a little more time to juice up the chief points and arguments listed in the article in brief, thirty to forty words will suffice. Try to showcase the outcome of the article and how it is helpful for the reader.
8. Proofread your article
It is strongly mandatory to read your article thoroughly to scan any spelling and grammatical errors. Don’t rely upon spelling and grammar check scripts provided in text editors that can’t judge between similar words like “principal” and “principle”. Hence it is advised to read it yourself or by someone else who is good in vocabulary.
To sum up
A lengthy article doesn’t always mean that it is informative. Just consider quality over quantity. You aren’t supposed to lengthen your article unnecessarily. Just try to include as much information as you can to benefit the reader.
